REDUCE

These machines mill uneven surfaces at round wood sections like butt ends and bulges, reducing logs to a certain diameter. When there are no more outgrowths on the logs , the material flow will be steadier and there are fewer disruptions in processing.

In one operation, block irregularities such as root attachments, branch stubs and bumps are milled off and the saw blocks are reduced to a certain diameter. If there are no more outgrowths on the blocks (bulges, branch stubs, root beginnings), the material flow becomes more even and there are hardly any disturbances in the further processing. The round reduction of the saw logs is a prerequisite for e.g. fully automatic operation of a chipping line and its auxiliary machines. In addition, an upstream root reducer relieves the debarker.

With almost 20 different models ranging from the low-cost stand-alone WRP-SSB to the fastest high-performance reducer in the logyard, the WRP-STAR, Baljer & Zembrod is the market leader in this segment in Europe.

With conventional root reducers, logs are thrown in crosswise, reduced, and then ejected, with minimum cycle times of six to eight seconds.

With the WRP-STAR, cycle times can be reduced by approximately 30%. Round timber sections are more gently transported through the system using the rotating star prism, protecting the logs from damage and the machine from hard knocks. Gaps between logs can be significantly reduced, with proven log yard performance increases of around 7%.

Baljer & Zembrod received two innovation awards for the WRP-STAR in 2007 and 2008.
